Al Stark is a Melbourne based artist whose practice is concerned with a diverse range of mediums including drawing, painting, installation, printmaking and three dimensional works.
These mediums are often applied to found objects and the waste of disposable consumables. His images reference forms of traditional indigenous and folk art throughout the world.
Starks' work thematically revolves around social and political human interactions, and seeks to raise questions by offering poetic visual narratives that entice critique though beauty.
The symbolism of fear, consumption, and gluttonous suicide sign post the work, forming folk epitaphs for the end of the modern world - like poetry of the abyss.
Al Stark painted this commission over a three week period in April 2009, curated by Andy Mac and commissioned by Nectar Efkarpidis of Molonglo Group.
The work consists of 8 glass panels, and is created by Al using aerosol enamel, acrylic paint and marker pens, painstakingly painted in reverse on the interior glass.
