Is it that we spend more time trying to 'fill the criteria' than just expressing ourselves honestly? Is it that we're more concerned about 'talking the talk' (you know the buzz-words reconciliation, multiculturalism, post-colonialism) than 'walking the walk'?
Save your policies for order in the house, and come out and play with White Hot. This is where it's at: new art from different places. How the new generation interact with the urban environment. How we infiltrate popular culture and how popular culture infiltrates us.
Art speaks what the establishment whispers; this show casts aside both black and white expectations. We are our own greatest oppressors. We are also our own generation.
White Hot artists employ their shared pop references to articulate an evolving visual and creative subculture; Koorie kids in Ramsay Street; ethnic kids making music; binge drinking and sex in the suburbs. That's when neighbours become good friends!
