Rosslynd Piggott : Rain, Hail or Storm

December 1, 2001

No.146, December-February 2002

Rosslynd Piggott has taken Melbourne by storm with her Citylights project. Located in the heart of the CBD, the exhibition consists of four advertising style light boxes mounted high on the wall of an alley adjacent to Centre Place, off Flinders Lane. Citylights is an artist run outdoor exhibition space established by Andrew Macdonald in 1996 with the assistance of the Melbourne City Council.

It utilises lightbox advertising technology to present diverse visual practices that transform passing pedestrians into contemporary art audiences In making this work Piggott used a local photo booth in Chinatown, visiting daily for about a month, and waiting in queues of young lovers to use the booth. She has made a series of landscape/self portrait images using the machine's in‑built digital mechanism. Piggott's storm ceases on December 6.
